DxO stepped into the breach and bought the Nik Collection source code from Google and set about updating the package so it could run properly again on industry-standard software like Photoshop. Thankfully, Nik Collection was eventually rescued by DxO, a developer of imaging software. Without any maintenance and development, Nik Collection withered on the vine and the plugins ended up no longer working with newer versions of Adobe’s image editing like Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. Sadly, Google wasn’t so keen on keeping Nik Collection up to date and it ended up giving the plugins away for free. Nik Software was so good that Google eventually snapped the company up so it could get its hands on the excellent SnapSeed photo-editing app for smartphones.
